Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton & Hove Albion 24/04/19

24 April 2019

Obliged to pick up all three points in midweek’s round of fixtures, Tottenham Hotspur welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City last time out.

Although the North Londoners advanced to the Champions League semi-finals by dumping Man City out of the competition, they are not having the best of times in the Premier League. The Spurs have suffered three defeats in their last five PL outings (W2, L3) with all three of those failures saw them losing by a narrow 1-goal margin. However, Maurizio Pochettino’s men have pulled off three wins in as many competitive games at their brand new venue, with all three of those successes saw them beating their rivals to nil. Although Tottenham lost four of 16 PL home clashes this term (W11, D1, L4) all four of those defeats have come against teams from the upper half of the table while Pochettino’s men secured all five wins in their previous home H2H meetings with the PL’s bottom-six sides.

Meanwhile, a disastrous haul of one point from their last five PL matches sees the visitors frantically looking over their shoulders as they currently reside 17th with a three-point lead over 18th-placed Cardiff City. Brighton’s away record (W3, D3, L11) should also worry Chris Hughton, especially considering the fact his players have failed to keep a clean sheet in 15 of 17 PL away fixtures. Importantly, all six of Albion’s positive road outcomes have come against teams from the bottom half of the table, with the Seagulls losing all four away PL H2Hs with the league’s top-five sides, scoring just one goal across those games. Interestingly, five of Brighton’s last six PL road clashes have featured over 2.5 goals with four producing goals on both ends.
