Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium plays host to Tottenham Hotspur’s must-win Premier League home clash against relegation-threatened Bournemouth.
After suffering a 3-1 loss to Leeds in May 2021, Tottenham have emerged victorious in ten of their last 11 Premier League matches against newly promoted teams (D1), including all five wins this season. When playing at home, ‘Spurs’ have only lost once in their last 32 games against promoted sides (W29, D2), which occurred in December 2018 in a 3-1 defeat to Wolves. In the Premier League, Tottenham have triumphed in their previous five outings played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by an aggregate score of 10-2, accumulating more points at home than any other team in the competition since February (15). They’re likely to maintain that trend after winning all five previous home meetings with Bournemouth in the Premier League, notably scoring 3+ goals in four of those victories.
In the meantime, Bournemouth’s hopes of securing Premier League survival were handed a huge boost last weekend as their 1-0 win at fellow relegation rivals Leicester City moved them three points clear of the drop zone. Interestingly, the ‘Cherries’ have racked up four triumphs in their last eight Premier League outings (L4), as many as in their first 22 games this season. However, they’ve not won back-to-back top-flight fixtures since October 2018, and unless they address their defensive woes, that wait is going to extend. Indeed, Gary O’Neil’s men have conceded a league-high 38 goals on their Premier League travels this term, highlighting their backline as a potential soft spot. Curiously, just one of Bournemouth’s last nine away league matches have seen both teams on the scoresheet (W2, L7).
