Tottenham Hotspur vs Bayern Munich
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sets the stage for a blockbuster summer friendly between Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich.
After slipping to a 2-1 loss in South Korea, Tottenham will look to repay the favor to Bayern Munich – the only side to have beaten Ange Postecoglou’s team in regulation this summer. After a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United to get their pre-season preparations underway, Spurs won four consecutive friendlies, netting multiple goals in each, before Bayern knocked them down from that high-flying run. That result extended Tottenham’s underwhelming losing streak against the Bavarians to three matches, all of which saw them concede multiple goals and find the back of the net at least once. Playing at home isn’t necessarily a good thing for Spurs, considering they’ve alternated between victories (2) and defeats (2) across their last four outings in North London.
On the other hand, after relinquishing their decade-long dominance in the Bundesliga last season, Bayern Munich parted with underachieving manager Thomas Tuchel, with Vincent Kompany arriving to fill the gap. It’s been a relatively decent start for the Belgian tactician, as he’s won two of his three friendlies in charge of the Bavarians (D1). While waiting for marquee summer signing Michael Olise to join the squad, Bayern will rely on usual suspects to shoulder the scoring burden, with ex-Spurs talisman Harry Kane returning to London as a foe. Kompany’s men are scoring at will, bagging 2+ goals in four of their last five matches.
