Torino vs Atalanta 23/02/19

23 February 2019

Torino and Atalanta face-off at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino as one of the toughest Serie A teams take on the league’s best attack.

Currently trailing Atalanta by three points, Torino desperately need all three points here to interfere in the European promotion battle. Although they’ve entered this round with a four-game lossless run on their backs (W2, D2), the hosts are still struggling to find the right balance in the final third. For Torino, goals have been at a premium. Not only the Bulls failed to find the net in three of their last seven games across all competitions, but they have only managed to score a brace once in the process. A lapse in concentration in the final 15 minutes could be a major setback for Walter Mazzari’s team considering they’ve failed to score in the closing stage of the game in all 14 SA home outings this term. However, the Maroons’ stubborn defense has kept a clean sheet in four consecutive SA fixtures, which at the moment seems to be Torino’s main force.

Meanwhile, the visitors still dream about the Champions League and considering they sit just four points adrift of fourth-placed AC Milan they have every reason to hope for a miracle. The Goddess usually go all out – a tactic that has paid off so far, as they currently hold top spot of the scoring leaderboard having bagged 51 goals in 24 league fixtures. Although it could sound surprising, Gian Pierro Gasperini’s men have scored more goals away from home (30), netting 2+ match goals in eight of 12 SA road meetings. The Nerazzurri come into this encounter after racking up a three-game road winning run during which they’ve notched 12 goals, while allowed just two in the process. However, it will be a daunting prospect for Atalanta to pick up all three points here, considering they’ve failed to outplay Torino in all six of their previous visits to this venue (D3, L3), scoring one goal or less in each.
