Tokyo vs. Perth Glory

Tokyo will kick-start their AFC Champions League Group F home campaign against Perth Glory when the two sides lock horns at the Ajinomoto Stadium this midweek.

The hosts were pegged back in their Group F opener against Ulsan Hyundai (1-1) and would like to avoid a similar setback here. That draw now means Tokyo have failed to pick up a win in four of their last five competitive outings (D3, L1), with four of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. In turn, Kenta Hasegawa’s men have secured just two wins in their previous six home fixtures (D2, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals in four, with only one of those games producing over 2.5 total goals. Particularly ponderous in the first half, Tokyo have failed to find the back of the net before halftime in eight of their past nine competitive home matches.

Meanwhile, the visitors travel to Japan on a run of nine consecutive games without a loss (W7, D2) and on the back of a 4-2 home win over Wellington Phoenix. Notably, six of Perth’s last seven competitive wins have yielded a multiple-goal margin, with five seeing them score over 2.5 goals. Furthermore, the Glory have kept a clean sheet in six of their last nine games, with four of six goals they conceded in the other three coming in the second half. Curiously, three of Perth Glory’s previous five road trips have featured under 1.5 goals, while none has seen both teams on the scoresheet.
