Tanjong Pagar vs Tampines Rovers

Jurong East Stadium plays host as Tanjong Pagar and Tampines Rovers go head-to-head in a top-three Singapore Premier League six-pointer.

Tanjong Pagar claimed a hard-fought 1-0 home triumph over Balestier Khalsa last time out, ending a run of four Singapore Premier League matches without winning (D2, L2). More importantly, that victory marked Tanjong’s first top-flight clean sheet after eight successive failed attempts to register a shutout, during which they conceded an alarming average of 2.5 goals per game. What’s more, before keeping Balestier at bay, the ‘Jaguars’ had been without a home clean sheet in Singapore’s top division more than a year, conceding in 16 consecutive such fixtures, 13 of which saw them let in 2+ goals.

In the meantime, Tampines Rovers succumbed to a morale-crushing 4-0 home defeat to current Singapore Premier League leaders Lion City last time out, halting a streak of six league games without losing (W4, D2). It was also Tampines’ first scoring blank in the league following a run of six matches in which they netted 2+ goals, at an average of 3.5 per game. The ‘Stags’ will feel confident about returning to the scoresheet here, as their last two top-flight visits to Tanjong have featured the same 2-2 scoreline. With none of their two away league outings in which they conceded first ending as a draw (W1, L1), action on either side of the pitch looks likely.
