Switzerland vs Serbia

Letzigrund Stadion is the venue as Switzerland and Serbia go head-to-head in a high-stakes UEFA Nations League showdown.

Following a disastrous four-game winless start to their Group A4 campaign (D1, L3), Switzerland’s hopes of upholding their long-term Division A status in the Nations League are in tatters. With two games left to play, the relegation play-off place is the best-case scenario for the home side as they bid to avenge a disappointing 2-0 defeat in last month’s reverse fixture. Switzerland’s defensive woes have been their scourge in the ongoing cycle, with Murat Yakin’s side ominously conceding 2+ goals in all four Nations League outings. Indeed, the Swiss’ total of ten is only better than Israel’s 13 and Azerbaijan’s 11, highlighting the depth of the problem. On a more positive note, before the abovementioned H2H upset, Switzerland had won both previous matches against Serbia.

To their credit, the Eagles netted at least once in both those defeats before finally finding a breakthrough in October. It was a mere consolation for Dragan Stojkovic’s men, considering they immediately succumbed to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Spain, posting their third scoring blank in four Group A4 fixtures (D1, L2). However, avoiding defeat in Zurich would likely help Serbia maintain their elite status in their maiden Division A appearance. Achieving that goal would require the Serbs to defy an underwhelming run of six losses from their last seven away games (W2), including a pair of defeats by 2+ goals ‘to nil’ in the ongoing Nations League cycle.
