Switzerland vs Estonia

Switzerland’s warm-up campaign for the upcoming European Championship is gaining momentum, with Estonia touching down at the Swissporarena for a friendly.

Despite letting their form dwindle towards the end of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign (D3, L1), Switzerland will feature in a third consecutive continental tournament as Group I runners-up. Their preparations for the Germany showpiece are in full swing, with a narrow 1-0 win against Ireland last time out halting their underwhelming five-match winless run (D4, L1). Manager Murat Yakin would appreciate an attacking improvement in the build-up to this summer’s competition after his men netted under 1.5 goals across their last six outings, averaging just 0.5 goals per game. Encountering Estonia should help, considering the ‘Nati’ won their first three H2Hs by 3+ goals ‘to nil’ before a tight 1-0 victory in their most recent meeting in 2015.

Meanwhile, Estonia’s failed attempt to secure an appearance at a first major tournament as an independent nation saw them finish bottom of Euro 2024 qualifying Group F with a single point from eight matches (D1, L7) and a -20 goal difference (GF:2, GA:22). Their recent results in non-competitive fixtures paint an equally bleak picture, with a 2-1 defeat against Finland in late March marking their four consecutive winless friendly (D1, L3) while extending their disastrous run to 11 losses across their last 13 internationals (D2). Terminally unable to shine in the final third, the Baltic minnows haven’t scored more than one goal per game since a 2-0 win against Lithuania in November 2022, netting one or fewer across their last 15 outings.
