Sweden vs Switzerland 03/07/18

3 July 2018

A round of 16 encounter that will take place at the Saint-Petersburg Stadium will see Sweden taking on Switzerland after both teams qualified for the knockout stage thanks to some remarkable performance in the group phase. The Blue-Yellow, who finished top of Group F with two wins and a loss, encountered a difficult task in the third round as they had to beat Mexico to cement their place among the top sixteen teams of the tournament, and they had managed to achieve that in some style. After a 1-0 win over South Korea in their opening World Cup match, Janne Andersson’s team suffered a 2-1 loss to Germany, and they were obliged to defeat El Tri in the final match of the group stage, which they did by demolishing the CONCACAF side by three goals to nil. Meanwhile, Switzerland opened the tournament with an impressive 1-1 draw with Brazil after which they defeated Serbia 2-1 thanks to a stunning comeback in the second half, only to complete the group phase with a 2-2 draw with Costa Rica.

Ola Toivonen, Marcus Berg, and Emil Forsberg are expected to spearhead Sweden’s attack like it was the case in the previous three games, while Josip Drmic might start from the first minute for La Nati after unconvincing displays from Seferovic and Gavranovic.
