Although they have had an impressive warm-up campaign, where they achieved six wins out of nine matches, the Swabians entered the season on the wrong foot, losing 2-0 to Hansa Rostock in the first round of the DFB Pokal before slipping again, against Mainz. Meanwhile, the Bavarians have wrapped up a comfortable 3-1 win over Hoffenheim at home, starting the defending campaign with some style following a narrow 1-0 triumph over the lower-league side Drochtersen/Assel in the cup game. Furthermore, Niko Kovac’s team recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Chicago Fire in a friendly match that took place in the midweek, extending the winning streak to six, as they look to maintain a good form against the Reds.

Tayfun Korkut won’t have Alexander Meyer at his disposal after the experienced goalkeeper picked up a severe ligament injury. As for the visitors, Kingsley Coman, who suffered a nasty looking injury against Hoffenheim, will be the only player to skip the encounter.
