Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich 02/09/18

02 September 2018

After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Mainz on the road on the opening Bundesliga matchday, Stuttgart will host Bayern Munich at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, hoping to repeat the same performance like last year, when they hammered the champions by four goals to one at the Allianz Arena. Although they have had an impressive warm-up campaign, where they achieved six wins out of nine matches, the Swabians entered the season on the wrong foot, losing 2-0 to Hansa Rostock in the first round of the DFB Pokal before slipping again, against Mainz. Meanwhile, the Bavarians have wrapped up a comfortable 3-1 win over Hoffenheim at home, starting the defending campaign with some style following a narrow 1-0 triumph over the lower-league side Drochtersen/Assel in the cup game. Furthermore, Niko Kovac’s team recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Chicago Fire in a friendly match that took place in the midweek, extending the winning streak to six, as they look to maintain a good form against the Reds.

Tayfun Korkut won’t have Alexander Meyer at his disposal after the experienced goalkeeper picked up a severe ligament injury. As for the visitors, Kingsley Coman, who suffered a nasty looking injury against Hoffenheim, will be the only player to skip the encounter.
