Stuttgart vs Bayer Leverkusen 03/10/20

3 October 2020

Bayer Leverkusen head to the Mercedes-Benz Arena to meet Stuttgart in a potentially low-scoring Bundesliga affair. Indeed, all five of their previous league H2Hs have featured under 2.5 goals, with none seeing both teams score.

Despite accruing a win and a loss in their opening two Bundesliga fixtures, the hosts have been a fun team to watch. Indeed, both of those games have seen over 4.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with the opener coming before the 15-minute mark in each. Notably, ‘Die Schwaben’ have been quite prolific at home this calendar year, netting over 1.5 goals in six of nine competitive home matches. However, they have found it difficult scoring against Leverkusen over the past seven years, drawing a blank in four of their last five top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (D1, L4). In fact, going back to 2010, Stuttgart have failed to beat Bayer in eight consecutive Bundesliga home H2Hs (D2, L6), conceding over 1.5 goals on five of those occasions.

Meanwhile, the visitors have failed to impress at the beginning of the season, playing out back-to-back draws, both of which featured under 2.5 goals. Indeed, a 0-0 away draw with Wolfsburg on Matchday 1 means they have failed to pick up three points in three of their last Bundesliga trips, 2019/20 included (D2, L1). Taking their accomplishments from the final stage of the last season, ‘Die Werkself’ have netted under 1.5 goals in four of their previous top-flight trips, with both of their goals scored across those meetings coming in the second half of play. Peter Bosz would like to see his team avoid conceding the opening goal, though, considering Leverkusen clinched just one win from six Bundesliga trips in which they shipped the opener back in 2019/20 (W1, D1, L4).
