Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain 08/03/20

8 March 2020

Paris Saint-Germain head to the Stade de la Meinau to take on Strasbourg, looking to extend their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 (L1) H2Hs to five games (W2, D2).

The hosts have suffered a dip in form, going from back-to-back league victories to three consecutive games without a win (D2, L1), scoring just once across those three fixtures. Yet, ‘Le Racing’ have been regular on the scoresheet at home this season, finding the back of the net in all but two of their 13 L1 matches here. Indeed, 68.75% of their total L1 goals scored came on home turf (22/32). Quick-start Strasbourg have bagged the opening goal (if any) in eight of 13 league home fixtures, and their 62.5% winning ratio in such affairs can encourage the home fans (W5, D1, L2). But, all three of Strasbourg’s L1 home defeats this term arrived against the sides currently occupying the top five spots in the table, with each seeing them concede precisely two goals.

Goal-friendly PSG’s 5-1 demolition of Lyon in Coupe de France at midweek has not only stretched their winning run in all competitions to three games, but six of their last seven matches have now seen the Parisians score over 3.5 goals. Away from home, Thomas Tuchel’s men had won six consecutive league fixtures before being held to a 4-4 draw to Amiens. They didn’t only score 2+ goals in each of those triumphs, but five saw them win the first-half ‘to nil.’ PSG also look to finish off their away games with a bang, finding the net inside the final 15 minutes of play in six of 13 L1 road trips so far this season. Surprisingly though, the reigning L1 holders have picked up just a single victory in their last six top-flight trips to Strasbourg (D3, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on five of those occasions.
