SPAL vs Fiorentina 03/08/20

03 August 2020

Fiorentina head to the Stadio Paolo Mazza to take on SPAL on the final matchday of the season, looking to post a fourth consecutive win in their Serie A H2Hs.

Dead-last SPAL have lost all but two of their 11 Serie A outings since the resumption of football in June (D2), scoring under 1.5 goals on ten of those occasions. In fact, a genuine lack of firepower up front is the reason why SPAL remain the only side in Italy’s top-flight to fail to smash a 30-goal barrier (26). Additionally, a league-high 12 losses from 18 Serie A home fixtures this season (W2, D3) probably the best illustrates an utterly underwhelming campaign for ‘Gli Spallini.’ Furthermore, the hosts have not only lost five of their previous six Serie A home clashes against the upper-half-of-the-table sides, but they lament a disastrous -13 goal difference across those matches (GF:5, GA:18).

Meanwhile, the visitors have put four past Bologna at home last time out to bring a two-game winless run in Serie A to a halt (D1, L1). Despite winning only once in five league trips since the restart (D1, L2), the ‘Viola’ have been an exciting team to watch. Indeed, four of those fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet. However, Giuseppe Iachini’s men have struggled to impress against the current bottom-five teams on the road this term. Fiorentina have won only once in four such matches (D1, L2), with each of those three results (wins/losses) featuring over 2.5 goals and both sides hit the net (GF:5, GA:5).
