Spain vs Faroe Islands 09/09/19
9 September 2019
Arguably the strongest and the weakest side of Group F come face-to-face at the Estadio El Molinón where Spain tackle the Faroe Islands.
So far impeccable in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers (ECQ), the hosts have won all five of their opening games of Group F. All of those triumphs have seen the Red Fury score two or more goals and concede one or less. After miserably failed in the UEFA Nations League, the 2010 FIFA World Cup champions have racked up a six-game winning run, beating their rivals by a multiple-goal margin on half (3) of those occasions. Also, Robert Moreno’s players have won four of their last five home games (W4, L1), three of which have been accompanied by a clean slate while three seeing them score 2+ match goals too. Backed by a solid run of form, Spain will surely look for another routine triumph here following a 4-1 away win over the Faroe Islands in the reversed fixture.
Meanwhile, nailed to the bottom of the group, the visitors have lost all five of their ECQ games so far. Three of those defeats have seen them concede precisely four goals, while none of their five qualifiers witnessed the Faroe Islands score more than one goal. Aside from two stalemates with Malta and Andorra, Lars Olsen’s men have lost all seven of their last competitive trips, failing to get to the scoresheet in four. Moreover, taking into account their ECQ appearances since 1998, the ECQ away record of a win, a draw, and 23 defeats can only intimidate the traveling side ahead of this trip.
