Southampton and Leicester City will face-off at St. Mary’s Stadium this weekend, with the home side hoping to kick-start their season by posting their first Premier League (PL) home win in H2Hs since January 2017.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men go into this fixture frantically looking over their shoulders, as they sit level on points with 18th-placed Newcastle United. Winless in their last four PL outings, the hosts have managed to put an end to a three-game league losing run with a 1-1 away draw with Wolverhampton last time out. Moreover, the Saints are just one of two teams that are yet to pick up a home win in the PL this term (D1, L3). Still, St. Mary’s Stadium has been a venue of entertainment this season, as all four of Southampton’s PL games here have seen both teams score with three of them producing over 2.5 goals. Their dismal home record is unlikely to improve here, as they’ve suffered back-to-back PL home defeats to Leicester in their last two H2Hs at this venue.

Meanwhile, the visitors have bounced back from a frustrating 2-1 away loss to Liverpool with a dramatic home triumph over Burnley last time out, as they currently sit third in the standings. Interestingly, none of Leicester’s last seven PL fixtures has ended in a draw (W5, L2), with four of those matches ending via the identical 2-1 scoreline (W3, L1). The Foxes have gone from two straight PL away games without a loss (W1, D1) to two consecutive defeats, with all three of those results (win/loss) being settled by a single-goal margin. Slow starters on the road, Brendan Rodgers’ players have conceded the first-half opener in three of four PL trips so far, returning just one point from those matches.
