Southampton vs Burnley 12/08/18

12 August 2018

After a season they would like to forget as soon as possible, Southampton will try to improve this year, as they look to host Burnley at the St. Mary’s Stadium, hoping for a positive outcome. The Saints barely managed to avoid relegation in the previous Premier League campaign thanks to a dreadful Swansea’s performance in the last five rounds of the championship, which is why the club had to intervene in this market session. The former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong, as well as,the former Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard should be the ones to help the team avoid another disastrous season, as they are the two most notable summer signings. Mark Hughes’ team has featured in six warm-up matches this summer, recording three wins, two losses, and a draw, but the most important thing was that they have started scoring goals, which was their principal problem last year. Meanwhile, Burnley would hardly forget last season swiftly, as they managed to secure the Europa League promotion for the first time in fifty years. After finishing 7th, the Clarets faced off against Aberdeen in the qualifications, and after both matches ended in a 1-1 draw, Sean Dyche found the back of the net twice in extra time to provide their fans an unforgettable satisfaction. Apart from the Europa League qualifications, Burnley also participated in six friendlies, achieving four victories, while recording one draw and a loss.

According to the latest reports, all Southampton players will be fit and ready for the encounter. As for the visitors, Nick Pope, Steven Defour, and Tom Heaton are likely to skip the trip due to injuries.
