Slavia Praha vs Chelsea 12/04/19

12 April 2019

After dumping Sevilla out of the competition, Slavia Praha face another challenging task as they meet Chelsea in the Europa League quarter-finals clash that takes place at the Sinobo Stadium this midweek.

Undefeated in their last ten outings across all competitions (W7, D3), the hosts look to stretch their European home unbeaten run to six games (W2, D3). Slavia’s European home success is a result of their impressive defensive displays that have seen them kept a clean slate in four of five of Europe’s outings held in the Czech Republic. A lack of inspiration in the final third has, however, seen the Sešívaní scored one goal or less three times in that period, which is why four of five of Slavia’s home games in Europe have produced under 2.5 goals. But, Jindřich Trpišovský can be more than happy about his team’s recent attacking output at the Sinobo Stadium, with the Červenobílí bagging 4+ match goals in four of five of their home clashes in the build-up to this encounter.

The visitors, meanwhile, seem to be moving up a gear following a tumultuous period, as they come into this meeting after racking up a three-game winning run during which they’ve scored seven goals while conceding one in the process. The Blues’ most notable improvement in the recent period concerns their away performance, as they’ve gone from five straight road losses to four wins on their last five road trips across all competitions (W4, L1). Interestingly, five of the Pensioners’ last seven away victories have ended with the identical 2-1 scoreline, with Maurizio Sarri’s men leading at the break in three. As for Chelsea’s Europe’s road clashes, three of their four wins away from Stamford Bridge has seen them beating their rivals by a minimal one-goal margin.
