Slavia Praha vs Borussia Dortmund 03/10/19
3 October 2019
Slavia Praha and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head at the Sinobo Stadium, with both sides going after their first victory of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League (CL) campaign.
Held to a 1-1 away draw to Inter Milan in the Group F opener, the hosts are still chasing the elusive first CL away triumph having played out two draws and suffered two defeats in the group stage so far. The Czech Republic outfit qualified for the group stage for the second time in their history thanks to a 2-0 aggregate win over the Romanian side CFR Cluj in the play-offs (1-0 A, 1-0 H). But, “Červenobílí” had secured just one victory in 15 CL matches before that tie (D7, L7). Unbeaten in 24 games across all competitions (W19, D5), Jindřich Trpišovský’s side will try to snap a three-game losing streak against the German opponents during which they failed to find the back of the net. Slavia’s solid home form in European home matches could come in handy, as they’ve lost just one of the last eight such games (W4, D3, L1).
As for the visitors, they were unlucky not to beat Barcelona at home in their CL curtain-raiser, playing out a goalless draw eventually. As a result, Die Schwarzgelben have now failed to pick up a win in five of their last six CL outings (W1, D2, L3), struggling to hit the net on five occasions in that period. Another potential worry for the traveling side is that they’ve pulled off just two wins in their previous 12 European trips (W2, D4, L6), both of which came in the group stage last season. But, Lucien Favre can be encouraged to know Dortmund have never lost to the Czech club on the road (W3, D2), with their last loss to the Czech opponents dating back to 1963/64 season.
