Sion vs Valencia 24/07/19
24 July 2019
The Swiss side Sion welcome La Liga giants Valencia to the Stade Tourbillon for a friendly meeting, which will be the first-ever H2H encounter between these two teams.
Interestingly, all five of Sion’s friendlies this summer have ended in a stalemate, with four of those matches ending with the same 0-0 scoreline. Stéphane Henchoz’s men have started the new league campaign off on the wrong foot, suffering a disappointing 4-1 home loss to Basel a few days ago. Immense difficulties in the final third have seen Sion score one goal or less in nine of their last ten outings. But, an encouraging fact for the Swiss outfit is that they’ve kept six clean sheets across the same period, allowing over 1.5 goals per match on just two occasions.
Meanwhile, Valencia kicked off their pre-season with a narrow 1-0 loss to AS Monaco a few days ago. The Bats have concluded the last season with a trophy, having outscored Barcelona 2-1 in the Copa del Rey final. Notably, none of Valencia’s last 16 matches has ended in a draw (W10, L6), with five of those defeats seeing the Oranges concede two or more goals. But, nine of Valencia’s wins in that span have seen them score over 1.5 goals per match, beating their rivals to nil just three times though. Also, five of Valencia’s last seven games have produced over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, while six of those matches featured goals in both halves.
