Singapore will have to make their home advantage count at the beginning of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign when they take on Yemen at the Singapore National Stadium in the opening match of Group D.

A 1-1 draw with Oman aside, none of Singapore’s last ten games has ended in a stalemate (W7, L3). Five of those wins have seen Singapore score two or more goals per match, while all of their defeats in that period witnessing the Lions score one goal in total. Preparing for their first-ever competitive meeting with Yemen, the hosts will look to bounce back after a 2-1 home loss to Myanmar last time out, which has brought their seven-game home unbeaten run to a halt (W6, D1). Although they’ve scored 2+ match goals five times in that period, only three of those games have seen them keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, the visitors are going through a nightmarish period, having lost six of eight matches since the turn of the year (W1, D1, L6). Frustratingly for them, five of those defeats have seen them fail to find the back of the net while four witnessed two or more goals in their net. What’s more, Yemen’s last away win dates back to June 2016 (2-0 win over the Maldives) after which they’ve struggled to pick up a triumph in 14 consecutive trips (D4, L10). Also, their disastrous attacking output when away from home has seen the Red Devils fail to get to the scoresheet in 11 of those trips, scoring over 1.5 match goals once in the remaining three.
