Sheffield United vs Manchester United
Manchester United take a must-win trip to Bramall Lane to meet Premier League basement boys Sheffield United.
Sheffield United’s never-ending injury crisis has contributed to a disastrous Premier League start, with the ‘Blades’ going into the international break nailed to the bottom of the standings with a single point from eight matches (D1, L7). Under-pressure manager Paul Heckingbottom could be counting his last days in Yorkshire unless his side can build on a 2-1 win over Man Utd in their most recent Premier League H2H in January 2021. However, his men have not only lost three of their four home league outings this term (D1), but their last outing at Bramall Lane yielded an embarrassing 8-0 defeat to Newcastle United. Unfortunately for Sheffield United, you’d need to go back to the opening weekend of the inaugural 1992/93 Premier League campaign for their last home league win over Man Utd.
In the meantime, Scott McTominay’s super-sub performance saw Man Utd overturn a 1-0 deficit in stoppage time to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford last time out and hand manager Erik ten Hag a lifeline. But the Dutchman is not out of the woods yet, with the ‘Red Devils’ experiencing their worst Premier League start in three decades. On a more positive note, a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United’s fellow promoted rivals Burnley on their last league travel puts Man Utd in a prime position to win back-to-back away matches in the Premier League for the first time in 2023. That triumph also extended United’s winning league streak against the newcomers to nine games, inspiring more confidence around the traveling camp. Considering they’ve been on the scoresheet in all ten Premier League H2Hs, scoring shouldn’t be a problem.
