Sheffield United vs Liverpool 28/09/19

28 September 2019

Sheffield United and Liverpool will face-off at Bramall Lane for their first Premier League (PL) showdown since February 2007.

After a 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace, Sheffield lost both of their subsequent league games at this venue, each by a margin of one goal. Four out of five goals seen in Sheffield’s PL home matches have come in the second half, with each of them arriving between the 46th and 70th minute. Encouraged by a 2-0 away triumph over Everton last time out, the hosts will now try to take a much bigger scalp against other Merseyside outfit, who they’ve struggled to beat in both of their PL H2Hs since the turn of the millennium (D1, L1). Interestingly, the Blades have scored more goals away from home this term (five of seven) and have yet to find a net inside the opening 45 minutes at home.

Meanwhile, the visitors are the only side in the English top tier to win all six of the opening PL fixtures, including the one against Chelsea on the road last time out. Notably, all of the Reds’ PL triumphs have seen them score at least two goals and restrict their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match. Furthermore, last season’s runners-up have racked up an 11-game PL away unbeaten run ahead of this trip (W8, D3), winning all seven of their last PL away matches. To make things even more complicated for the hosts, Jurgen Klopp’s side last conceded more than one goal per league away match against Manchester City in back in January.
