Shandong Luneng vs Guangzhou Evergrande 25/06/19

25 June 2019

The two Chinese giants are set to battle their way to the AFC Champions League quarter-finals as Shandong Luneng welcome Guangzhou Evergrande to the Luneng Big Stadium for the second leg of their last-16 tie.

The hosts have suffered a 2-1 loss in the first leg, stretching their losing streak against Guangzhou to five games. What’s more, it was Shandong’s fourth consecutive game in which they’ve struggled to pick up a win (D2, L2) but also the fourth straight that has seen both teams score. However, the Taishan Dui have been impressive at home lately, having racked up a six-game unbeaten run (W5, D1). Notably, all five of their wins across that period have seen them net over 1.5 match goals, with Li Xiaopeng’s men restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match in each.

On the other hand, the visitors’ outstanding run of form has seen them put together eight consecutive triumphs across all competitions. Although just four of those wins have been accompanied by a clean sheet, the South China Tigers have conceded more than one goal per match only once in the remaining five games in that period. Furthermore, Fabio Cannavaro can be more than happy about his team’s recent attacking output, as Guangzhou bagged 16 goals in their last five outings, netting over 1.5 match goals in each. Also, Guangzhou have secured four wins on their previous five road trips (W4, L1), with two of those matches featuring over 6.5 goals.
