Sevilla vs Villarreal 27/08/18

27 August 2018

After an impressive start of the season and an inspiring 4-1 triumph over Rayo Vallecano on the road, Sevilla will host Villarreal at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, looking to repeat the similar performance. Los Hispalenses have already reached the optimal fitness level, as they featured in four Europa League qualifying matches, against Ujpest and Zalgiris, securing all four victories, with an encouraging +12 goal difference. However, the Andalusians have missed out on a first season’s trophy, as they lost 2-1 to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup Final although they took the lead in that match. Meanwhile, the Yellow Submarine, who lost their best player Samu Castillejo to AC Milan, suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad at home last weekend, which only confirmed Javier Calleja’s players are having a rough time, as they only achieved two wins in eight warm-up matches, while drawing five times in the process. It seems that Villarreal’s main problem concerns their attacking game, considering they’ve only managed to score more than one goal in two out of last nine games.

Carlos Fernandez will be the only missing player in the home squad, while Javi Fuego, Bruno Soriano, and Daniele Bonera are all sidelined for the visitors due to injuries.
