Sevilla vs Leganes 01/12/19
1 December 2019
Third-placed Sevilla entertain the La Liga (LL) basement side Leganes at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, looking to maintain an impressive run of form.
Ever since a 4-0 away loss to Barcelona back in early October, the hosts have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, picking up seven wins in the nine subsequent matches in all competitions (W7, D2). While both of their draws in that sequence came via the same 1-1 scoreline, five of Sevilla’s seven triumphs have seen them shut out their opponents. Also, the Andalusian giants have won three of their last four LL home games (W3, D1), with two of those wins coming via a single-goal margin. But, Sevilla’s indifferent top-flight home record against Leganes could trouble the home fans (W1, D1, L1), especially as the visitors swept Sevilla aside here with a commanding 3-0 win last season.
It’s so far been a season to forget for Leganes, who remain nailed to the bottom of the table with just one win after the opening 14 rounds of the LL fixtures (W1, D3, L10). Except for identical 1-1 draws with Real Sociedad and Valencia, Los Pepineros lost all four of their remaining LL road matches, scoring only one goal while conceding ten. In fact, Leganes’ haul of three goals scored on the road is the league’s joint-worst. Curiously, three of Leganes’ six LL away games have seen them concede at least one goal in the opening 20 minutes of the second half after a goalless first half (D1, L2).
