Seoul vs Gwangju 17/05/20

17 May 2020

Seoul will welcome Gwangju to the Seoul World Cup Stadium this weekend, hoping to stretch their winning run in K League 1 home H2Hs to four straight games.

The hosts have started the new season pretty much in the same fashion they’ve finished the last, succumbing to a 3-1 away defeat to Gangwon. As a result, they are now winless in six consecutive K League 1 outings (D2, L4), last season included. Seoul’s home form can’t encourage Choi Yong-soo either, as his players have suffered four defeats in their seven previous league games held here, picking up just a single win (D2). Frustratingly, six of those seven games have seen them score under 1.5 goals, with a 3-1 victory over Incheon United being the only exception.

On the other hand, the visitors, who have returned to the Korean top-flight this season, have started the new campaign with a 2-0 home loss to Seongnam, extending their losing run in competitive matches to three. It’s been ‘all or nothing’ for Gwangju when away from home lately, as none of their last five competitive trips has ended in a draw (W2, L3). Curiously, three of those matches saw over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with two witnessing the winner on the day come from behind to seal the triumph.
