Seattle Sounders vs San Jose Earthquakes 11/09/20

The two out-of-form MLS sides will face off against each other at the CenturyLink Field this week, as Seattle Sounders take on San Jose Earthquakes.

The hosts sit second in the Western Conference ahead of the kick-off, having failed to pick up a win in their last two MLS outings (D1, L1). They must be confident of returning to winning ways here after beating San Jose in four of their previous six league H2Hs (D2). High scoring has been a theme for Seattle this season, as 77.78% of their MLS fixtures produced over 2.5 goals (7/9). Strong first-half performers, the ‘Sounders’ have found themselves on the back foot at half-time only once in six MLS home matches (HT: W2, D3, L1). Also, Brian Schmetzer’s men have shown a tremendous ability to bounce back after conceding the opening goal – Seattle have lost just one of three top-flight home games in which they shipped the opener (W1, D1, L1).

As for the visitors, they have gone from two consecutive MLS wins to three successive matches without a victory (D1, L2). Remarkably, three of those five abovementioned games saw over 4.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. San Jose’s league action usually sparks into life after the half-time break, with 63.64% of the goals scored/conceded coming in the second half of play (21/33). Away from home in MLS, all three of their fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals, with nine of the ten goals scored/conceded arriving after the break. But, the ‘Quakes’ have failed to win in all five of their previous top-flight trips to Seattle (D2, L3), drawing a blank on three of those occasions.
