Schalke 04 vs Bayern Munich 23/09/18
23 September 2018
After playing out a 1-1 draw with Porto in the Champions League opener, Schalke 04 will be facing off against Bayern Munich at the Veltins Arena, hoping to end a nightmarish 3-game losing streak in the Bundesliga.
The Royal Blues have suffered two away defeats, to Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, while getting outplayed by Hertha Berlin at home. So far, the Miners have conceded a total of six goals, two in each game, while scoring two times in the process. Although Domenico Tedesco desperately tries to motivate his players, a match against the most dominant German side will hardly help his cause.
The Bavarians are impeccable this season on all fronts, as they’ve swept Eintracht Frankfurt aside in the German Super Cup Final with a 5-0 win while storming through the Estadio da Luz with a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Benfica. In the meantime, in the Bundesliga, Niko Kovac’s side achieved a maximum of nine points, by outplaying TSG Hoffenheim, Stuttgart, and Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds have scored nine goals and conceded just two in the domestic championship so far, which is why they are topping the table, having a 2-point lead over Borussia Dortmund.
The injuries of Johannes Geis, Omar Mascarell, Bastian Oczipka, Sascha Riether, Steven Skrzybski, and Benjamin Stambouli cause Tedesco a sizeable headache, as he needs to come up with something special if looking to avoid another misery. As for the visitors, Rafinha, Corentin Tolisso, and Kingsley Coman are ruled out due to injuries.
