Saudi Arabia vs Singapore 11/10/19

11 October 2019

Saudi Arabia and Singapore go head-to-head at the King Abdullah International Stadium in Buraidah in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

A 2-2 away draw with Jemen now means that Saudi Arabia are winless in six consecutive fixtures in all competitions (D2, L4). Unprolific in the final third, the Green Falcons have failed to get on the scoresheet four times across that period, allowing over 1.5 match goals on four occasions too. Hervé Renard’s side will have a perfect opportunity to put an end to their disappointing five-game winless streak (D3, L2) when they take on Singapore, who they outplayed in all three H2H meetings since the turn of the new millennium. Furthermore, they should be able to improve their indifferent home record in 2019 (W1, D1, L1), and potentially keep a blank sheet at home for the first time this calendar year.

On the other hand, backed by a promising start to their qualifying campaign (W1, D1), the visitors will stake their claims for three points here. However, Singapore will face an uphill task as they’ve pulled off just two wins in their last 18 trips going back to June 2016 (W2, D5, L11). For the Lions, goals have been in short supply when away from home lately, as they’ve struggled to hit the net in three of their last five away fixtures, netting precisely one goal per match in the remaining two. But, Singapore’s recent results are in sharp contrast to that, as four of their last five matches produced over 2.5 goals and saw both teams score (W2, D2, L1), with Tatsuma Yoshida’s men bagging 2+ match goals three times in the process.
