Sampdoria vs AC Milan 31/03/19

31 March 2019

Two sides desperate to play their way to Europe go head-to-head at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris as Sampdoria tackle AC Milan.

Sitting ninth with a three-point deficit to sixth-placed Lazio, the hosts are still in the race for the Europa League promotion. Having lost all three of their previous H2Hs with Milan (one after extra time), the Blucerchiati hope to snap a frustrating streak as they come into this meeting after pulling off a stunning 5-3 road win over Sassuolo before the international break. Unable to maintain consistency during the recent period, Marco Giampaolo’s men have won two of their last five home games across all competitions (W2, L3), with both of those wins saw them beating their rivals to nil. Just two of seven of Sampdoria’s previous home clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, with only one saw goals on both ends.

On the other hand, a disappointing 3-2 draw to arch-rivals Inter Milan on the eve of the international break has brought AC Milan’s five-game SA winning run to an end. Still, the visitors currently sit fourth in the table with a four-point lead over fifth-placed AS Roma as they look to return to Europe’s top-tier competition after five years of absence. Although unbeaten on their last seven SA road trips, Gennaro Gattuso and his men have endured a partial success in that period (W4, D4), scoring one goal or less on five occasions during the run. Interestingly, the Rossoneri have outplayed Sampdoria in four of their five H2Hs at this venue (W4, L1), with all five games saw one team beating the other one to nil.
