Salzburg vs Liverpool 25/08/20
25 August 2020
Liverpool are gearing up for their upcoming FA Community Shield clash against Arsenal, as they take on RB Salzburg in an off-season friendly at the Red Bull Arena this midweek. The Reds have won both of their previous H2H meetings, scoring over 1.5 goals in each of those successes.
Curiously, three of Salzburg’s four pre-season friendlies have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W2, D1, L1), with 66.67% (six) of their nine goals scored across those matches coming in the second half of play. Before succumbing to a 4-1 loss to Ajax in their last friendly fixture, ‘Die Mozartstädter’ had netted over 1.5 goals in eight consecutive outings, netting an average of 3.62 goals across those games. Jesse Marsch’s men have been impossible to stop scoring at home this calendar year, notching over 1.5 goals in 84.21% of their home clashes, friendlies included (3/19). Yet, Salzburg’s defensive woes have seen them concede two goals or more in five of their last nine matches.
Meanwhile, Liverpool started their pre-season campaign off on the right foot, picking up a comfortable 3-0 win over Stuttgart. It now means that the Reds have netted over 2.5 goals in four of their last six matches, with 62.5% (ten) of the 16 goals they scored across that sequence arriving before the break. Away from home, Jurgen Klopp’s men have endured mixed fortunes in their previous four games (W2, L2), all of which have produced over 2.5 goals, with the last three also seeing both teams score. Notably, all eight of their goals conceded across those fixtures arrived in the first half.
