Salzburg vs Chelsea 01/08/19

1 August 2019

Red Bull Salzburg will host Chelsea to the Red Bull Arena for the Blues’ penultimate pre-season match.

The reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions have been going from strength to strength lately, putting together five wins ahead of this clash. Four of those wins have seen Salzburg score three or more goals, while three have seen them beat their rivals to nil too. Furthermore, Salzburg’s run of impressive form since the beginning of May saw them secure 11 wins in 13 outings across all competitions plus friendlies (W11, D1, L1), with nine of those games producing over 2.5 goals. What’s more, Jesse Marsch’s men have scored 2+ match goals in 25 of 26 wins since the turn of the year, which should trouble Chelsea’s fragile defense.

Meanwhile, the visitors travel to the Red Bull Arena looking to stretch their winning run to three games after beating Barcelona and Reading in their last two summer friendlies. Those were two of Franck Lampard’s three wins in charge (W3, D1, L1), with all of those triumphs seeing the Blues find the net in both halves. Interestingly, while all three of Chelsea’s wins this summer produced over 2.5 goals, both of their failures have featured less than three goals. Also, the Pensioners’ struggling in defense has continued under Lampard, with Chelsea conceding at least one goal in four of five summer friendlies.
