Saint-Etienne vs Monaco 29/09/18

29 September 2018

AS Saint-Etienne prepare to face off against AS Monaco, with the match scheduled to take place at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

After a 2-1 win over Guingamp in the Ligue 1 opener, Les Verts have notably dropped in form, playing out three successive draws, while failing to score in two of them before suffering a massive 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain. However, the Saints have managed to raise their game again, defeating Caen, 2-1 at home, and outplaying Toulouse on the road in midweek’s 3-2 thriller. Jean-Louis Gasset urges his players to maintain a good form and end a frustrating 8-game winless streak against Les Monégasques.

Meanwhile, it’s hard to expect the club from the principality could play worse than they did in the past six league events. In fact, Les Rouges et Blancs have lost three matches and played out three draws in Ligue 1 following a 3-1 win over Nantes on the opening matchday. Furthermore, Leonardo Jardim’s side have suffered a 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League opener, and in case of another failure, the Portuguese manager might have to pack his bags.

The experienced right-back Mathieu Debuchy will be out after picking up a thigh injury, while Wahbi Khazri should return after serving a one-match suspension. As for the visitors, Danijel Subasic, Willem Geubbels, Ronael Pierre-Gabriel, Rony Lopes, and Stevan Jovetic are all expected to miss the encounter due to injuries.
