Rennes vs Olympique Lyonnais 30/03/19

30 March 2019

Olympique Lyonnais’ quest to the Champions League promotion continues at the Roazhon Park as they take on an unpredictable Rennes side.

Sitting six points adrift of fourth-placed Olympique de Marseille, the hosts have to wrap up all three points to keep their chances of reaching the Europa League promotion alive. Rennes’ outstanding run of form at the Roazhon Park gives the home fans plenty of reasons for excitement, given they have racked up a 14-game unbeaten run at home across all competitions (W10, D4). It will also be a chance for Les Rouges et Noirs to snap a four-game home winless streak in H2Hs with Lyon (D2, L2). But, although they’ve won three of their last five games in the build-up to this meeting, Julien Stéphan’s men go into this clash off the back of back-to-back failures (D1, L1) during which they’ve conceded four goals while scoring just one in the process.

Meanwhile, the visitors are confident of qualifying for the Champions League as they sit third, six points clear of Marseille. However, Lyon’s lack of consistency has seen them going from four straight road victories to four consecutive failures (D1, L3). Additionally, Les Gones have failed to wrap up all three points on all of their previous three L1 road trips (D1, L2) failing to find the net in both of their losses during the run. Unable to keep a clean sheet, Lyon have conceded at least one goal in ten of their 11 games across all competitions, allowing over 1.5 goals per match four times. Still, if Bruno Génésio’s men pick up a win here, it will probably see them score over 1.5 goals, as ten of 11 of their competitive away triumphs have seen them bag 2+ match goals.
