Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid 11/03/19

11 March 2019

The two struggling sides go head-to-head at the Estadio José Zorrilla as Real Valladolid face-off Real Madrid.

Having lost all three of their previous La Liga fixtures, the hosts have tumbled down the table as they currently sit just three points clear of 18th-placed Villarreal. Additionally, the Pucelanos have lost four of their last five LL clashes (D1, L4) mainly thanks to disastrous performances in the final third that have seen them score just one goal in that period. Immense attacking problems rank the returnees as the worst goalscoring team in the Spanish top flight, with Sergio González’s men bagging just 20 goals in the opening 26 LL matchdays. The essential aspect of Valladolid’s game is their impressive defense that has slowed down recently, allowing 2+ match goals in four of their previous seven LL games, while keeping a clean sheet only once in the process.

Meanwhile, for the first time in five years, Real Madrid are facing a trophyless season, as the current Champions League holders enter this round carrying a disastrous three-game losing streak during which they’ve scored barely one goal while conceding eight. After suffering back-to-back defeats in two clashes with arch-rivals Barcelona, including the one in Copa del Rey, Los Merengues have suffered a nightmarish 4-1 home loss to Ajax in the Champions League. Los Blancos’ wrapping up La Liga title seems like a sci-fi now considering they are sitting 12 points adrift of the Blaugrana. But, caretaker manager Santiago Scolari can be pleased to know his players have pulled off four successive LL road triumphs ahead of this fixture, scoring 2+ match goals in each although failing to keep a clean sheet in the process.
