Real Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid 06/10/19

6 October 2019

Backed by a 2-0 away triumph over Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League, Atletico Madrid travel to Estadio José Zorrilla to entertain Real Valladolid.

The hosts have drawn twice in as many La Liga (LL) home outings this term. Both of those stalemates have ended with the same 1-1 scoreline, with each side scoring a goal inside the same respective half. Interestingly, Valladolid’s only two league triumphs were also the only matches where they’ve managed to score more than one goal, although both have come away from home nonetheless. Finding the breakthrough has proved to be vital for ‘Pucelanos’ this term, as they’ve returned just one point from three games where they’ve allowed the opponents to take the lead. Going back to late April, none of Valladolid’s last five LL home matches has featured over 2.5 goals, with Sergio Gonzalez’s side netting one goal or less on each occasion in that span.

Goals have been in short supply when Los Rojiblancos played on the road this term, as none of their four trips in all competitions featured more than two goals. Also, none of those games has seen both teams score, with three of them ending with the identical 2-0 scoreline (W2, L1). Diego Simeone’s men have developed a habit of beating their rivals to nil, as 15 of their 17 LL triumphs since the turn of the year saw them keep a clean sheet. Such a scenario seems likely to happen here, as Atletico won each of their last four LL trips to Valladolid, preventing the home side from scoring on three occasions during the run.
