Real Madrid vs Tottenham Hotspur 31/07/19

31 July 2019

The out-of-form Real Madrid side come face-to-face with Tottenham Hotspur at the Allianz Arena for the opening match of the 2019 Audi Cup.

Zinedine Zidane will be desperate to see his side bounce back following a humiliating 7-3 loss to city rivals Atletico Madrid in Real’s final appearance in the 2019 International Champions Cup. Los Blancos have struggled to live up to expectations in the most respectful annual friendly competition (W1, L2), allowing two or more goals in all three outings although finding the net in each. Los Merengues have practically transferred their run of poor form from the end of last season to their summer preparations. They have managed to pull off just one win in the final five matches of the 2018-19 campaign (W1, D1, L3), failing to find the net in three of those matches.

On the other hand, the Spurs have kicked off their pre-season with a tight 3-2 win over Juventus in their opening match of the International Champions Cup. However, they go into this clash off the back of a 2-1 loss to the Premier League rivals Manchester United. Although they’ve finished fourth in the Premier League last term and featured the Champions League final, the London giants have been struggling for form in the final stage of last season just like their next opponents. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have suffered six defeats in the final nine games of last campaign (W2, D1, L6), five of which have been settled by a narrow one-goal margin. Also, five of those matches have ended with the same 1-0 scoreline (W1, L4), with three of the remaining four producing over 3.5 goals and seeing both teams score.
