Real Madrid vs Levante 14/09/19

14 September 2019

Real Madrid will host an in-form Levante side to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the build-up to their Champions League opener coming next week.

Although unbeaten in La Liga (LL) this term, the hosts have won just one of three league games so far (W1, D2). After a comfortable 3-1 away triumph over Celta Vigo, Los Blancos were held to back-to-back draws to Valladolid (1-1) and Villarreal (2-2), with two of a total of three goals they’ve scored across those stalemates arriving beyond the 80th minute. Also, Los Merengues’ returns from their last two LL home games are the same as their previous two home H2Hs with Levante (D1, L1). But before that, the Madrid giants have put together eight competitive home wins over Levante, all of which have come by a margin of multiple goals.

On the other hand, the visitors have replied to a narrow 1-0 away loss to Alaves in the LL curtain-raiser with back-to-back wins in the upcoming two league fixtures. Unlike Real, the Granotas have managed to beat Valladolid and Villarreal after scoring precisely two second-half goals in both of those clashes. But, Levante’s recent away record suggests it will be a daunting prospect for them to surprise here, as they’ve suffered five defeats in their last seven LL trips (W1, D1, L5). Five of those results have been settled by a tight one-goal margin, with three of their losses in that sequence ending with the same 1-0 scoreline.
