Real Betis vs Sevilla

Estadio Benito Villamarin is the venue as eternal rivals Real Betis and Sevilla go head-to-head in a highly-anticipated La Liga contest.

Real Betis’ quest to secure European football next season is firmly on track after back-to-back 2-1 wins against Celta Vigo and Valencia moved them into seventh, a point clear of eighth-placed Valencia. There’s no room for complacency as Manuel Pellegrini’s men return home, where they’ve only lost two of their 16 La Liga matches this season (W8, D6) despite averaging just 1.43 goals per game. While the overall H2H record in the El Gran Derbi against Sevilla (W40, D35, L65) doesn’t make for good reading, an 11-point lead on their crosstown rivals suggests it’s time to flip the script. No one would love that more than Pellegrini, who laments a disastrous record of just one win in eight Seville derbies in charge of Betis (W1, D4, L3).

In the meantime, Sevilla have turned the corner since a 2-1 home loss to Celta in mid-March, winning their last three league matches by a combined score of 5-1 to steer 12 points clear of the bottom three. With La Liga survival in the bag, Los Rojiblancos will look to put a landmark 10th top-flight win on the board this season. Manager Quique Sanchez Flores has an added motive to come out on top of this mammoth encounter as he desperately looks to improve his embarrassing managerial record against Pellegrini (W4, D2, L11). Beating Betis would see Sevilla register four consecutive league wins for the first time since April 2021. Stats back them for success, considering they’ve lost just once in their last five away H2Hs (W2, D2).
