Real Betis vs Real Madrid 09/03/20

9 March 2020

Real Madrid will be desperate to end their two-game winless run in La Liga (LL) H2Hs with Real Betis when the two sides lock horns at the Estadio Benito Villamarín this weekend.

The hosts are enduring a challenging period, having failed to pick up a single win in their last six league outings (D3, L3). All three of their defeats during that six-game sequence produced a narrow one-goal margin, with each featuring at least one goal (scored/conceded) beyond the 70-minute mark. Yet, Los Verdiblancos know how to put up a fight when playing on home turf. Indeed, all but one of their last nine LL home fixtures have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W4, D2, L3), although seven have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Another ‘high-scoring affair’ is on the cards, considering three of their last five LL home clashes against this visitor produced over 4.5 goals (D1, L4).

An impressive 2-0 home triumph over arch-rivals Barcelona last weekend has propelled Real Madrid back to the top of the table, ending their two-game winless league run (D1, L1). Although their latest LL road trip brought a 1-0 defeat to Levante, Los Blancos had gone unbeaten in seven LL away fixtures prior (W5, D2), keeping a clean sheet in four of those matches. In fact, the visitors remain the only side in Spain’s top-tier yet to concede double figures away from home this season, with just three of their eight road goals shipped coming in the first half of play (38%). But, a lack of first-half goals can be a problem for Zinedine Zidane’s men here, as only eight of their total 21 away goals scored came before the break.
