RB Leipzig vs Union Berlin 19/01/20
19 January 2020
RB Leipzig continue their pursuit of their elusive first Bundesliga (BL) title this weekend, as out-of-form Union Berlin arrive at the Red Bull Arena.
The hosts have headed to the winter break as the league toppers and are on a run of eight BL matches without a loss (W7, D1). Notably, a rampant Julian Nagelsmann’s side has netted over 2.5 goals in each of those fixtures during the eight-game sequence, finding the opening goal on five of those occasions. An impressive scoring form has seen Leipzig rack up 18 of their total 23 BL home goals scored in the last four league outings at the Red Bull Arena (78%). Huge favorites to pick up three points here, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have been ruthless against the clubs from the bottom half of the table. They have not only won all seven of their previous such matches, but they’ve scored over 2.5 goals in six of those successes while keeping a clean sheet in four.
Meanwhile, the visitors sit only five points clear of the relegation zone and have failed to clinch a win in three consecutive league matches ahead of this trip (D1, L2). Arguably one of the weakest away teams in Germany’s top tier, Union Berlin have claimed just five of 24 points available on the road so far this season (W1, D2, L5). All four of their previous trips to the clubs from the upper half of the table have resulted in a failure, with three of those defeats coming via a single-goal margin. Conceding the first goal could prove fatal for Union Berlin, who have returned only one point from six road trips that have seen them allow the opener (D1, L5).
