RB Leipzig vs Schalke 04 04/10/20
4 October 2020
RB Leipzig will be looking to snap a two-game winless home Bundesliga streak against Schalke 04 (D1, L1) when the two sides meet at the Red Bull Arena.
The hosts enter this round unbeaten despite failing to keep a clean sheet in both of their opening Bundesliga fixtures (W1, D1). Early action has highlighted Leipzig’s season so far, as all of the six league goals scored/conceded arrived before the 55-minute mark. Curiously, though, a 3-1 win over Mainz 05 on Matchday 1 brought Leipzig’s six-game winless home run in the Bundesliga (D5, L1). Regardless, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have suffered just one single loss from ten top-flight home outings this calendar year (W3, D6, L1), scoring over 1.5 goals on six of those occasions. A ‘goal-friendly’ contest is well on the cards, as three of their four Bundesliga H2Hs held at this venue have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W2, D1, L1).
Meanwhile, the visitors continue to suffer in 2020, as they take the field after failing to pick up all three points in 18 consecutive league matches, last season included (D6, L12). A genuine lack of firepower up front is what has been troubling Schalke during that period, as they’ve drawn a blank in ten of those 18 games, scoring precisely once in the remaining eight. It gets worse away from home, ‘Die Königsblauen’ have lost seven of ten Bundesliga trips since the turn of the year (D3), with five of those defeats yielding a full-time margin of at least three goals. Furthermore, seven of those ten matches have seen Schalke fail to get on the scoresheet.
