RB Leipzig vs Hertha BSC 28/05/20

28 May 2020

The two in-form sides go head-to-head at the Red Bull Arena this midweek as RB Leipzig take on Hertha BSC.

Sitting seven points adrift of table-toppers Bayern Munich, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have to beat a side they’ve outplayed in all four of their previous top-flight H2Hs to keep their dream of winning the Bundesliga (BL) title alive. The hosts have racked up seven consecutive BL matches without a loss (W3, D4), including a 5-0 demolition of Mainz on the road at the weekend. In turn, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have not suffered a single defeat in their last ten league home fixtures (W6, D4), scoring over 2.5 goals in each of those six victories. Leipzig’s home action usually sparks into life after the break, with 58% (19) of their total 33 BL home goals scored so far coming in the second half of play.

In the meantime, the visitors have been quite convincing since returning to action after the coronavirus pandemic, as they’ve secured back-to-back league wins, both of which have yielded a clean sheet and at least a three-goal margin. It seems the break helped Hertha to find their footing since they were on a three-game winless BL run before the pandemic gripped football (D2, L1). Accustomed to tight road affairs, nine of Hertha’s 13 BL away matches have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals. But, ‘Die Alte Dame’ have been impressive away from home lately, avoiding defeat in six consecutive BL road trips (W4, D2), with three of those four successes coming against the sides currently sitting in the upper half of the table.
