RB Leipzig vs Freiburg 16/05/20
16 May 2020
RB Leipzig will entertain Freiburg at the Red Bull Arena this weekend, looking to settle the score following a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture.
Although unbeaten in six consecutive Bundesliga (BL) matches (W2, D4), the hosts trail table-toppers Bayern Munich by five points and must clinch all three points here to keep the title dream alive. Arguably one of the best home sides in Germany’s top-flight, ‘Die Roten Bullen‘ have suffered just one defeat in 12 BL home fixtures this term (W7, D4), with six of their seven league home victories coming via a multiple-goal margin. In turn, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have scored over 2.5 goals in six of their last eight BL home games, with 55.56% (15) of the total 27 goals scored across those games coming in the second half of play.
Meanwhile, the visitors endured mixed fortunes before the coronavirus outbreak halted proceedings (W2, D1, L2), with three of those four results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. However, away from home, Freiburg have recorded just one win in their last ten matches (D4, L5), drawing a blank in four of those five defeats. Freiburg’s tendency to slow down after the break has seen them score just five of their 12 BL away goals in the second half of play (42%), which is the league’s lowest record. Things seem unlikely to improve now, as they take on a side they’ve lost to in each of their three top-flight away H2Hs.
