RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt
RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are set to trade tackles at the Red Bull Arena in a top-six Bundesliga six-pointer.
Leipzig followed up a 3-0 thrashing of fellow Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg with a 1-1 home draw against Manchester City in midweek Champions League action, so confidence should be skyrocketing in the home camp ahead of the kick-off. Despite blowing hot and cold across their last three league outings (W1, D1, L1), ‘Die Roten Bullen’ can take stock of the fact they’ve never lost a Bundesliga home match against Frankfurt (W3, D3), though their last two H2Hs at the Red Bull Arena have finished level. Yet after going down 2-1 to Union Berlin in their most recent home league fixture, Leipzig could lose back-to-back home games in the Bundesliga for just the second time in the club’s history, last doing so in April 2018 under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
That scenario looks like a genuine possibility, especially considering Leipzig found themselves on the receiving end of a 4-0 scoreline in the reverse fixture at Frankfurt. Yet unlike their hosts, ‘Die Adler’ experienced a rough midweek, succumbing to a 2-0 home loss to Napoli in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie. Things are looking a bit prettier in the Bundesliga, where Oliver Glasner’s men have won two of their last three matches by 2+ goals ‘to nil,’ though their most recent league travel yielded a thumping 3-0 defeat at Cologne. That result extended Frankfurt’s dismal Bundesliga run to four away games without winning (D3, L1), all of which saw Glasner’s side net under 1.5 goals.
