PSG vs RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig will hope to cause an upset when they take on Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes in a must-win UEFA Champions League Group A meeting.

Paris Saint-Germain had played out a dismal 1-1 away draw at Club Brugge in their Group A curtain-raiser. However, a 2-0 home win over Manchester City last time out catapulted them to the top of the section ahead of their third Champions League clash against Leipzig (W2, L1). ‘Les Parisiens’ boast an intimidating Champions League home record against German visitors, having won all but one of their eight such match-ups (L1), a solitary reverse courtesy of a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the second leg of last season’s quarter-final. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have suffered just one loss in their previous 28 home fixtures in the Champions League group stage (W22, D5), going down to Manchester United in their 2020/21 curtain-raiser. Notably, PSG have netted a resounding average of 2.8 goals per game during that 28-match sequence.

In the meantime, Leipzig’s hopes of making it out of the Champions League group stage for the third season running are hanging by a thread following a pair of underwhelming defeats to Man City and Club Brugge. Yet, they’ve been fun to watch, as both of those matches have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, featuring precisely two goals within the opening 30 minutes of play. Worryingly, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have lost four of their five Champions League away fixtures since the start of last season (W1), with those match-ups producing an average of 4.8 goals per game. Moreover, the manager in charge, Jesse Marsch, has overseen 14 Champions League encounters as a head coach, while he has yet to navigate his sides to a clean sheet in the competition. Barring a 4-0 thumping of lower-league side Sandhausen in the German cup, Leipzig have failed to win any of their remaining five competitive away matches this term (D2, L3).
