Portugal vs Switzerland 06/06/19

6 June 2019

The winners of the UEFA Nations League Group A/3 come face-to-face with the Group A/2 toppers, as Portugal welcome Switzerland to the Estádio do Dragão in Porto for their semi-final tie.

The hosts have gone past the group stage with a record of two wins and two draws, with three of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. Although unbeaten in their last eight outings across all competitions (W3, D5), A Seleção das Quinas have played out four straight draws ahead of this meeting, with all four of them producing under 2.5 goals. Portugal’s immense difficulties in the final third have seen them score one goal or less in nine of their previous 11 games. But, a stubborn defending has seen Fernando Santos’ men restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match eight times in the same period.

Meanwhile, the visitors have managed to advance to the semi-finals thanks to a stunning 5-2 home win over Belgium in the final round of group stage fixtures. The Nati have finished top of Group A/2 with a record of three wins and a loss and an impressive +9 goal difference (S14, C5). Vladimir Petkovic’s men have managed to overcome a turbulent post-World Cup period, mainly thanks to their outstanding displays in the final third. They have bagged 2+ match goals in four of their last five games but have failed to keep a clean sheet three times in the process.
