Poland vs Finland 08/10/20

08 October 2020

Poland will be looking to extend an unbeaten run against Finland to five (W2, D2) when the two nations meet at the Stadion Energa Gdańsk in an international friendly match-up.

Poland accrued a win and a loss during the last international break, which now means none of their previous six matches have ended in a stalemate (W5, L1). Curiously, four of those six results (wins/loss) have arrived via a narrow one-goal margin, with three seeing the winner on the day keep a blank sheet. Also, the hosts come into this clash unbeaten in five home games (W4, D1), scoring over 1.5 goals in all but one of those fixtures while failing to preserve a clean sheet just once. The ‘Eagles’ must be confident of improving that record against a Finland side they’ve managed to shut out in six of nine home H2Hs overall (W4, D4, L1).

Meanwhile, both of Finland’s outings during the last international break yielded the identical 1-0 scoreline (W1, L1), with the deciding goal in both coming after the hour mark. Going back to March 2018, it’s been ‘all or nothing’ for the ‘Huuhkajat’ (W14, L9), with the vast majority (82.61%) of those results seeing the winner on the day keep a blank sheet (19/23). The ‘clean-sheet’ theme has been equally significant for Finland away from home over the past two years, as eight of their ten trips since October 2018 have seen the losing side fail to get on the scoresheet (W5, L5). The visitors should still be confident of find the net here, considering they’ve scored at least once in five consecutive road trips going into this clash.
