Pohang Steelers vs Gwangju 08/08/20
08 August 2020
Pohang Steelers welcome Gwangju FC to Pohang Steel Yard, looking to post a fifth consecutive triumph in their K League 1 H2Hs.
Although a 2-1 away loss to Jeonbuk last time out marked Pohang’s first league defeat after six matches (W4, D2), the hosts are confident of returning to winning ways here, after racking up three successive wins in the top-flight home H2Hs. Curiously, two of those H2H successes were accompanied by a clean sheet, which has been true in both of Pohang’s K League 1 home victories this season. But, the ‘Steelers’ will be desperate to improve on the first-half home record that currently stands at W2, D3, L2, particularly considering they’ve won just once after failing to take the lead into the break. It’s also worth noting that all three of Pohang’s previous league home fixtures have featured under 2.5 goals.
In the meantime, the visitors brought a seven-game winless run in K League 1 (D1, L6) to a halt with a comfortable 3-1 away win over Incheon United last time out. It also means that two of Gwangju’s previous league trips have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W1, D1, L3), with both of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day score precisely twice beyond the 75-minute mark. Indeed, if the ‘Gwangju Griffins’ find the net here, they are likely to do it after the break, given four of their five K League 1 goals scored away from home this term arrived in the second half of play.
